About the position

The Director of Purchasing at the Fremont Unified School District (FUSD) plays a crucial role in overseeing the procurement processes for the district, which serves approximately 33,000 students across 44 schools. This position is responsible for ensuring that all purchasing activities are conducted in compliance with district policies and regulations, while also striving to achieve the best value for the district's expenditures. The Director will lead a team dedicated to sourcing, negotiating, and managing contracts with vendors and suppliers, ensuring that the needs of the schools are met efficiently and effectively. In addition to managing the purchasing department, the Director will collaborate with various stakeholders, including school administrators, district departments, and community members, to identify purchasing needs and develop strategies that align with the district's mission of providing equitable educational opportunities. The role requires a strong understanding of procurement best practices, budget management, and the ability to analyze market trends to make informed purchasing decisions. The Director will also be responsible for developing and implementing policies and procedures related to purchasing, ensuring transparency and accountability in all transactions. This includes maintaining accurate records, preparing reports for the Governing Board, and participating in the development of the district's budget as it relates to purchasing activities. Responsibilities

  • Oversee all purchasing activities for the Fremont Unified School District.
  • Ensure compliance with district policies and regulations regarding procurement.
  • Lead a team in sourcing, negotiating, and managing contracts with vendors and suppliers.
  • Collaborate with school administrators and district departments to identify purchasing needs.
  • Develop and implement purchasing policies and procedures to ensure transparency and accountability.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare reports for the Governing Board.
  • Participate in the development of the district's budget related to purchasing activities.
  • Analyze market trends to make informed purchasing decisions.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to the completion of a full four-year course of study leading to a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or a related field is preferred.
  • Five years of increasingly responsible experience in the purchasing field.
  • A valid certificate as Certified Purchasing Manager issued by the National Association of Purchasing Managers or the California Association of Public Purchasing Officers will be accepted for up to two years of experience.
