About the position

The Purchasing Director is responsible for the comprehensive development, coordination, planning, and communication of merchandise planning and logistics/supply chain strategies that support sales and inventory productivity. This role involves leading purchasing strategies, managing financial plans for a significant division, and ensuring effective inventory allocation and flow strategies to meet corporate objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, leads, and executes purchasing strategies to support sales, margin, and turn objectives.
  • Leads and guides the development of financial plans for a $500M-$1B division, including sub-division and product group plans.
  • Leads analytics and re-forecasting based on current trends and historical data.
  • Develops sales, margin, and inventory strategies to support corporate strategies, resets, promotions, and market share initiatives.
  • Maintains staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, and developing employees.
  • Communicates job expectations and evaluates performance of team members.
  • Analyzes historical data and current trends to identify risks and opportunities by division/sub-division/product group/vendor.
  • Develops effective inventory allocation and flow strategies to support overall productivity and in-stock goals.
  • Directs execution of seasonal and item exit strategies and evaluates results of program execution.
  • Ensures Purchasing team maintains a company average fill rate in excess of 98%.
  • Optimizes internal transfer paths and frequency to minimize internal freight costs.
  • Determines quantity and timing of deliveries and maintains accurate ETA information.
  • Manages and expands the Special Order process to support OSRs and minimize administrative activities.
  • Partners with Sales and Projects teams to implement SLAs aligning with customer expectations for Special Order items.
  • Collaborates with Lowe's on all integration initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or equivalent experience.
  • 10 years of experience in Business, Finance, or Supply Chain/Logistics.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience with direct report responsibility.
  • Demonstrated experience working closely with leadership (Sr. Director and above).
  • Demonstrated experience in sourcing and vendor management.
  • Ability to travel up to 25 percent of the time.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in retail supply chain management.
  • Familiarity with inventory management software.
