About the position

The Director of Purchasing will oversee a group of commodities within the Purchasing Department, managing procurement functions that include purchasing procedures and policies, supplier relationship management, quoting, strategy development, negotiation, supplier selection, and escalation of issues. A key focus of this role will be on identifying cost reduction opportunities and eliminating waste. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, organizing, directing, controlling, and evaluating the purchasing activities of the facility. This includes ensuring compliance with purchasing policies and procedures while supporting continuous improvement of these policies, procedures, forms, and systems. The Director will oversee sourcing strategies to ensure global alignment and will partner with the right suppliers at the right price. Additionally, the role involves identifying and developing suppliers for key parts within specific categories, leading supplier escalation calls, and evaluating the cost and quality of goods or services while bringing innovative ideas forward. The Director will negotiate or oversee the negotiation of contracts and pricing, lead Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VA/VE) activities with suppliers to ensure the lowest cost processes are selected, and support internal teams. Responsibilities also include reviewing and processing claims against suppliers, supporting new business wins, launches, and supplier/part development, as well as leading cost savings and process improvement actions. The role requires interviewing, hiring, and overseeing the training of staff, along with performing other duties and projects as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee procurement management functions including purchasing procedures and policies.

  • Review and process claims against suppliers.
  • Lead cost savings and process improvement actions.
  • Interview, hire, and oversee training of staff.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in business administration, commerce, economics, material management or related field experience.
  • Recommended SCMP / Certified Professional Purchaser (CPP) designation or similar.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor and provide overall leadership and direction within a work environment.
  • Strong commodity background ideally in powertrain specific manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of Material Indices and fluctuations with demonstrated success in negotiations.
