About the position

The Director of Purchasing at AMD is responsible for managing and optimizing the procurement strategy for foundry suppliers, focusing on wafer and advanced packaging. This role involves developing supplier relationships, implementing procurement processes, and driving cost improvements while ensuring quality and service standards are met. The position requires strong leadership, analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to support AMD's growth and innovation goals.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the management and spend of AMD's foundry suppliers, reporting directly to the Sr. Director of Procurement.
  • Develop the global procurement strategy for foundry and implement a supplier development program.
  • Build and maintain strong supplier relationships.
  • Provide analytical support and recommendations regarding sourcing strategies and cost improvement.
  • Drive sophisticated solutions and recommendations for complex procurement issues.
  • Collaborate with partners to develop negotiation strategies to achieve cost targets.
  • Lead critical foundry procurement management processes and ensure accountability.
  • Own the bidding process, including analysis and price negotiation.
  • Implement contracts to minimize risk and ensure supplier accountability.
  • Drive supplier performance reviews and manage the quarterly scorecard process.
  • Develop and communicate a commodity strategy to AMD Senior Management.
  • Conduct market research and benchmarking processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or related field.
  • Master's degree (MBA or MS) preferred.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt certification.
  • Certified Purchasing Manager certification.
  • Senior level experience in semiconductor industry.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Excellent negotiation skills.
  • Ability to analyze complex data and provide actionable insights.

Nice-to-haves

  • Extensive foundry or semiconductor experience.
  • Strong engineering background.
  • NAPM/APICS certification.
  • Understanding of regional and global markets and cultures.
