About the position

The Director, Field Real Estate at Caleres is a pivotal role responsible for shaping the real estate strategy and executing it within the assigned territory. This position involves collaboration with various departments to facilitate lease processes, manage broker networks, and develop strong relationships with landlords. The role is designed for a candidate with strong business acumen and interpersonal skills, who can effectively contribute to the company's growth and success in the retail footwear market.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting and supporting the Sr. Director RE with developing the real estate strategy, priorities, initiatives, and deliverables.
  • Executing the real estate strategy within the assigned territory, including new store site selection, lease negotiation, lease renewals, real estate cost optimization, remodels, relocations, and store asset management.
  • Preparing and presenting real estate site packages to the Real Estate Committee.
  • Ongoing development of strategic plans for the identified territory including analysis of existing store base, market share, market trends, and market competition.
  • Managing and coordinating the broker network for the identified territory.
  • Facilitating all aspects of the lease process through the store opening, including partnering with Legal, Finance, Operations, Store Services, and Construction departments.
  • Developing and maintaining strong business relationships with landlords and other retailers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred or equivalent experience preferred.
  • 5-10 years of corporate retail 'big box' real estate site selection/development experience and/or related retail leasing experience required.
  • Strong working knowledge of center leasing functions and procedures preferred.
  • Proficient with basic technology (e.g., Microsoft Office programs and Apple devices) preferred.
  • Legal, market research and/or finance experience/knowledge a plus.
  • Ability to travel up to 75%, including overnight stays required.
