About the position

The Director of the Regional MAC Office in Dearborn is responsible for managing and supervising all personnel within the office, ensuring compliance with MIDC standards, and overseeing grant funds. This role involves establishing policies, managing attorney appointments, and leading the new office's operations to support indigent defense law effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises staff including managing attorney appointment lists for funding units.
  • Establishes policies for attorneys to be added or removed from appointment lists.
  • Monitors MIDC attorney education requirements and coordinates staff training.
  • Establishes and leads the new Regional MAC Office and its policies and operations.
  • Develops and supports an Advisory Board composed of members of the funding units.
  • Drafts policies, responsibilities, job specifications, and on-boards members.
  • Manages inquiries, complaints, and questions regarding attorney appointments from multiple stakeholders.
  • Creates and oversees policies for the appointment, payment, tracking, and compliance oversight of expert and investigator requests.
  • Responsible for the preparation and administration of annual Compliance Plans and Cost Analyses for all funding units.
  • Oversees grant administration and manages data collection and reporting for compliance.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree
  • 5 years of experience in criminal legal defense litigation
  • 5 years of experience in department management
  • Licensed to practice law in good standing with the State Bar of Michigan
  • Valid State of Michigan Driver's License
