About the position

The Director of Research Compliance at the University of Connecticut will provide leadership and oversight to ensure compliance with federal regulations and university policies related to research. This role involves managing the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), and Animal Care Services (ACS) across various campuses, while fostering relationships with stakeholders and ensuring adherence to ethical standards in research practices.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day operational oversight of the IACUC, IBC, and ACS.
  • Assist in resolving complex issues by collaborating with key stakeholders.
  • Establish and implement short and long-range goals, objectives, policies, and procedures.
  • Supervise staff and ensure high customer satisfaction in service delivery.
  • Maintain knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and oversee policy writing and updates.
  • Manage the AALAC accreditation process and support reaccreditation efforts.
  • Design and evaluate committee review processes and internal research auditing policies.
  • Analyze data and prepare audit reports for institutional officials and researchers.
  • Identify educational needs and oversee the development of training programs for researchers.
  • Assist with inquiries related to scientific misconduct and compliance issues.
  • Maintain internal operating procedures and advocate for necessary resources.
  • Participate in inspections and prepare related reports and communications.
  • Serve as a member of the IACUC and provide oversight of related activities.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in an appropriate field.
  • At least 8 years of relevant experience, with 3 years in a supervisory role.
  • Certified IRB Professional (CIP) or equivalent certification.
  • Extensive knowledge of animal care protocols and federal regulations.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess risk and exercise sound judgment.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work under tight deadlines.
  • Critical thinking, problem solving, and decision-making abilities.

  • Advanced degree in an appropriate field.
