About the position

The Director of Research Compliance (IDRC) at the University of Connecticut will provide leadership and oversight to ensure compliance with federal regulations and university policies related to research. This role involves managing the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), and Animal Care Services (ACS) across various campuses, while fostering relationships with stakeholders and ensuring adherence to ethical and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day operational oversight of IACUC, IBC, and ACS.
  • Assist in resolving complex issues by collaborating with stakeholders.
  • Establish and implement goals, objectives, policies, and procedures for compliance.
  • Supervise staff and ensure high customer satisfaction in service delivery.
  • Maintain knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations and oversee policy updates.
  • Manage the AALAC accreditation process and related documentation.
  • Design and evaluate committee review processes and internal auditing policies.
  • Analyze data and prepare audit reports for institutional officials and researchers.
  • Identify educational needs and develop training programs for researchers.
  • Assist with inquiries related to scientific misconduct and non-compliance issues.
  • Maintain internal operating procedures and ensure proper record-keeping.
  • Participate in inspections and prepare related reports and communications.
  • Serve as a member of IACUC and other compliance committees.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in an appropriate field.
  • At least 8 years of relevant experience, with 3 years in a supervisory role.
  • Certified IRB Professional (CIP) or equivalent certification.
  • Extensive knowledge of federal regulations regarding animal care and biosafety.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess risk and exercise sound judgment.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work under tight deadlines.
  • Critical thinking, problem solving, and decision-making abilities.
