About the position

The Director of Research Compliance (IDRC) will lead and oversee compliance activities related to research at the University, ensuring adherence to federal regulations and university policies. This role involves managing the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), and Animal Care Services (ACS) across various campuses, while fostering relationships with stakeholders and ensuring effective operational practices.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day operational oversight of IACUC, IBC, and ACS.
  • Assist in resolving complex issues by collaborating with stakeholders and federal/state agencies.
  • Establish and implement goals, objectives, policies, and procedures for compliance.
  • Supervise staff and ensure high customer satisfaction in service delivery.
  • Maintain knowledge of relevant laws and regulations, and oversee policy writing and updates.
  • Work with institutional leadership to ensure compliance with ethical and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage the AALAC accreditation process and necessary documentation.
  • Design and evaluate committee review processes and internal auditing policies.
  • Analyze data and prepare audit reports for institutional officials and researchers.
  • Identify educational needs and oversee the development of training programs for researchers.
  • Assist with inquiries related to scientific misconduct and non-compliance issues.
  • Maintain internal operating procedures and advocate for necessary resources.
  • Participate in inspections and prepare related reports and communications.
  • Serve as a member of IACUC and other compliance committees, overseeing related activities.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in an appropriate field.
  • At least 8 years of relevant experience, with 3 years in a supervisory role.
  • Certified IRB Professional (CIP) or equivalent certification.
  • Extensive knowledge of animal care protocols and federal regulations.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to assess risk and exercise sound judgment in policy application.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work under tight deadlines.
  • Critical thinking, problem solving, and decision-making abilities.
