About the position

The Director of Research Compliance at the University of Houston-Clear Lake is responsible for ensuring that all research and sponsored program activities adhere to ethical and legal standards. This role serves as a liaison among various stakeholders, including compliance committees and university administration, to keep the community informed about changes in research ethics, regulations, and policies. The position involves training, policy development, compliance monitoring, and collaboration with researchers to uphold ethical standards in research.

Responsibilities

  • Provide training and technical assistance for campus compliance committees.
  • Develop and deliver training programs on research integrity and compliance requirements.
  • Track training completion for all constituents.
  • Update and maintain research compliance websites.
  • Facilitate the IRB and IACUC review processes to ensure compliance with federal regulations.
  • Initiate and coordinate writing and revision of forms, procedure manuals, and campus policies.
  • Collaborate with researchers to maintain ethical standards in research.
  • Identify, manage, and report on adverse events.
  • Ensure compliance with federal Responsible and Ethical Conduct of Research (RECR) and Research Security requirements.
  • Develop and update institutional policies related to RECR/Research Security compliance.
  • Manage the process of collecting and reviewing RECR/Research Security plans and training.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and university regulations related to Financial Conflict of Interest (FCOI).
  • Review and assess FCOI disclosures and ensure timely reporting to federal agencies.
  • Review and provide guidance related to Export Controls for contracts and research activities.
  • Assist in monitoring and initiating audits of Technology Control Plans.
  • Maintain a campus-wide policy for data management and compliance concerns.
  • Stay abreast of federal regulations related to research integrity and compliance.
  • Conduct regular audits and reviews of research protocols and disclosures.
  • Prepare and submit required compliance reports to regulatory agencies.
  • Work closely with the Associate Provost of Research to expand the university's research profile.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Business, Education, Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum five years of professional experience in research compliance or regulatory policies.
  • Four years of supervisory or leadership experience.
  • Knowledge of state and federal research compliance regulations.
  • Knowledge of regulatory audits and facility inspections.
  • Knowledge of human and animal research protocols and conflict of interest certifications.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong organization and management skills, including planning and conflict resolution.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to build and sustain relationships with campus community members.
