About the position

The Director of Research Operations at Sutter Bay Hospitals is responsible for leading the investigative staff and overseeing the scientific, strategic, and operational direction of research programs. This role involves setting goals and objectives, ensuring high-quality funded research, managing departmental budgets, and developing strategic business plans to support research efforts. The director will connect the medical center and its investigators to resources and collaborators both nationally and internationally.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of research program goals.
  • Maintain communications with federal funding agencies and research organizations.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and professional standards.
  • Develop policies and procedures for a safe and productive work environment.
  • Communicate and partner with senior management to integrate research activities with clinical care and education programs.
  • Identify best practices and standardize workflows to implement changes.
  • Develop new research programs by recruiting leading scientists and collaborating with partners.
  • Conduct strategic planning to support recruitment and resource availability for investigative staff.
  • Lead departmental goal-setting processes and monitor progress towards goals.
  • Provide oversight for research budgets and control operating expenses.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Research Administration, Health Services, Healthcare, or a related field.
  • 11+ years of relevant experience in research operations or a similar field.
  • Strong communication skills, particularly in translating technical issues into lay terms.
  • Effective negotiation skills and the ability to structure compromises.
  • Demonstrated leadership presence and ability to motivate and engage others.
