About the position

The Director of Research Support at the Sylvester Myeloma Institute is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing all research and grant activities within the department. This position is crucial for maintaining financial solvency and fostering academic growth. The Director will serve as a mentor to department management and staff on research funding issues, ensuring that the clinical research program operates efficiently and effectively. The role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including the administration and management of clinical research activities, regulatory compliance, and the oversight of clinical trials. The Director will work closely with internal and external stakeholders, including study sponsors, investigators, and regulatory authorities, to ensure that all research activities align with institutional goals and standards. In addition to administrative duties, the Director will manage research operations, ensuring compliance with all relevant standards and policies. This includes overseeing the development and implementation of clinical trial protocols, managing research activities, and providing leadership to the clinical research team. The Director will also be responsible for the education and training of staff, ensuring that they are well-equipped to manage and monitor patients on clinical trials. This role requires a strategic mindset, as the Director will participate in long-term planning and process improvement initiatives to enhance research operations and outcomes. The Director will also be tasked with developing reports summarizing research activity, maintaining knowledge of institutional and external policies, and serving as a liaison to federal agencies and funding sources. This position is integral to the success of the Sylvester Myeloma Institute's clinical research initiatives and will play a key role in advancing the institute's mission of providing leading-edge patient care through groundbreaking research and medical education.

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative management of the Sylvester Myeloma Institute's clinical research programmatic activities, including clinical trial protocols and industry-sponsored budgets.
  • Maintain effective communication with internal and external stakeholders, including study sponsors and regulatory authorities.
  • Oversee investigator-initiated and grant-funded clinical trials, including protocol and budget development.
  • Provide oversight of pilots and operations growth projects.
  • Liaise with network research management for comprehensive management of Myeloma clinical trials.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to oversee institutional clinical research priorities and key performance indicators.
  • Implement quality assurance measures to maintain the integrity of clinical research data.
  • Lead process improvement projects to increase accruals and improve study approval timelines.
  • Oversee and organize meetings for translational and clinical trials research.
  • Manage research activities to ensure compliance with standards and policies.
  • Deliver long-term strategic planning and oversight of daily research operations.
  • Support the research team, including project managers and clinical research coordinators.
  • Aid in the development of an effective staffing model for the research team.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the clinical research team, including hiring and training.
  • Identify training needs and provide ongoing guidance about policies and procedures.
  • Plan and conduct staff education sessions to ensure protocol compliance.
  • Mentor clinical research staff to encourage professional development.
  • Communicate and administer departmental policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles.
  • Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.
  • Ability to establish department goals and objectives that support the strategic plan.
