About the position

The Director of Retail Production and Distribution at Morgan Memorial Goodwill Industries is responsible for overseeing the operations of the Boston distribution center. This role ensures that all areas operate effectively and collaboratively, managing the receipt and processing of donated goods, and directing the distribution of these goods to stores. The position requires strong leadership, organizational skills, and a commitment to maximizing revenue while minimizing costs, all while ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Provides overall direction to the Boston distribution center operations.
  • Manages the receipt of donated goods from various sources.
  • Directs the processing of donated goods to obtain maximum value while limiting production costs.
  • Oversees the daily distribution of goods to stores according to allocation levels.
  • Coordinates with Mission Services on labor hours provided by paid trainees and interns.
  • Schedules and oversees daily transportation operations using Goodwill trucks.
  • Manages after-market sales and trash disposal to maximize revenue and minimize costs.
  • Operates the outlet to achieve revenue goals and maximize product sales.
  • Ensures proper disposal of hazardous materials and recycling of goods.
  • Develops and manages the plan for storage of goods to maintain a steady flow to stores.
  • Manages the purchase and inventory of supplies for the distribution center.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years' experience in a related position with at least three (3) years of staff supervision.
  • Experience in managing trucking and distribution logistics.
  • Strong financial and contract management skills.
  • Proven management skills with the ability to hire, coach, and develop staff.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid MA Driver's License and ability to travel throughout Massachusetts.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual in Spanish or Haitian Creole is a plus.
  • OSHA certification for forklift and safety training.
