About the position

The Director of Risk Management and Chief of Staff role at American Express involves supporting the Executive Vice President of Enterprise Risk Management and Risk Oversight. This position is pivotal in developing and implementing strategic initiatives, managing special projects, and collaborating with senior management to enhance risk management processes across the organization. The role requires a dynamic individual capable of navigating a fast-paced environment while ensuring effective communication and leadership within the team.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with senior management and leadership team in business planning and strategic initiatives; own and manage special projects.
  • Work closely with the Executive Office of the Chief Risk Officer, providing gap coverage and/or owning GRC wide initiatives as needed.
  • Effectively interact with the ERM&RO and GRC leadership team to identify, prioritize, and resolve issues.
  • Design and coordinate content/agendas for key meetings including Board, Committee, Regulatory, and Business Unit Reviews.
  • Prepare presentations, ad hoc analyses, and coordinate all executive office functions.
  • Manage budget and staffing activities.
  • Manage Colleague Engagement Team activities across all markets promoting positive morale and team building.
  • Collaborate on all aspects of annual Performance Management Process (PMP) and Talent Assessments with Colleague Strategic Partners.
  • Manage AENB insourcing and outsourcing processes.
  • Manage the headcount reporting for the Enterprise Risk Management and Risk Oversight organization.
  • Maintain Data Integrity checks for colleague data ensuring alignment on department, job code, and billing code.

  • Extensive experience in project management and leadership capacities.

  • Proven track record of developing working relationships across organizations and at all levels.
  • Strong integrity and discretion to handle confidential information.
  • Proactive and able to anticipate the needs of the EVP.
  • Self-motivated and ability to work autonomously.
  • Experience in risk management.
