About the position

The Director of Risk Management at Ryder System Inc. is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the financial aspects and pricing strategies of the North American Fleet Management Solutions rental and lease insurance extension program. This position entails comprehensive planning, forecasting, and budgeting activities for the insurance product line and risk management departments. The role is designed for remote work, allowing flexibility while ensuring that the director can effectively manage a team of finance and insurance professionals. In this capacity, the director will ensure that insurance renewal data for policy underwriting is accurate and compliant with government requirements. They will collaborate with external brokers and the VP of the department to uphold fiduciary responsibilities regarding insurance policies and procurement. Additionally, the director will assist with executive lines claims management and provide financial support and claims analysis to teams located in Colorado and Atlanta. The director will also direct all activities related to the Lease and Rental Physical Damage Insurance underwriting and pricing team, oversee all planning, forecasting, and budgets for Risk Management and the Insurance Product Line, and provide approval or disapproval on escalated insurance deals. Monitoring the performance of the insurance product line and taking corrective pricing actions when necessary will be crucial to the role. Furthermore, the director will maintain and enhance insurance pricing and underwriting models, ensuring that cost assumptions and market dynamics are appropriately considered. Participation in setting pricing strategies with senior management to drive profitable growth is also a key responsibility. The role requires the development and presentation of performance reports on the insurance product line to senior management, along with the execution of other duties as assigned. This position is integral to the strategic direction and financial health of Ryder's insurance offerings, making it essential for the director to possess strong leadership and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a staff of finance and insurance professionals.
  • Ensure insurance renewal data for policy underwriting is accurate and compliant with government requirements.
  • Work with external brokers in conjunction with VP and department to maintain fiduciary responsibility around insurance policies and procurement.
  • Assist with executive lines claims management and support claims team in Colorado and Atlanta with financial support and claims analysis.
  • Direct all activities of the Lease and Rental Physical Damage Insurance underwriting/pricing team.
  • Oversee all planning, forecasting and budgets for Risk Management and the Insurance Product Line.
  • Provide approval/disapproval on escalated insurance deals.
  • Monitor insurance product line performance and take corrective pricing action when appropriate.
  • Maintain and improve insurance pricing/underwriting models, ensuring appropriate cost assumptions and market dynamics.
  • Participate with senior management in setting pricing strategy to drive profitable growth.
  • Develop and present to senior management presentations on the insurance product line performance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in concentration in Risk Management/Finance, Preferred
  • Bachelor's Degree in concentration in Risk Management/Finance, Required
  • 7 years or more in relevant insurance knowledge, Required
  • 5 years or more in relevant Ryder IT systems knowledge, Preferred
  • 7 years or more in significant analytical and financial modeling skills, Required
  • Knowledge of insurance and underwriting practices, Advanced, Required
  • Strong familiarity with Ryder IT systems, Advanced, Preferred
  • Certified Risk Manager (CRM), Preferred, 1 Year
  • Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Preferred, 1.5 Years
