The Director of Risk Management at USAL plays a pivotal role in shaping and overseeing the organization's risk management strategy. Reporting directly to the President of USAL, this position is responsible for ensuring that the company adheres to regulatory compliance while leading various safety training programs and managing accident investigations. The Director will also be tasked with responding to emergencies and leveraging data and technology to enhance risk management practices. This role encompasses overseeing fleet safety and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, which is critical for maintaining operational integrity and safety standards. In addition to these responsibilities, the Director will handle litigation related to risk management, lead disaster recovery initiatives, and ergonomics programs. Collaboration with stakeholders is essential to improve safety and performance standards across the organization. The Director will also be responsible for developing and leading a team that supports these efforts, ensuring that all claims and accidents are thoroughly investigated and reported. The position requires a strategic mindset to develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive risk management strategy that includes driver training, regulatory compliance, cargo securement, and event recorder management. The Director will work closely with management and HR to ensure that all employees receive the necessary regulatory and safety training, particularly during new hire orientation and through the Driver Training Program. Monitoring accident investigation programs and emergency response plans is also a key aspect of this role, as is interfacing with both internal and external personnel to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions. Furthermore, the Director will oversee the administration of FMCSA/DOT guidelines related to fleet safety and equipment, ensuring compliance with OSHA, FMCSA/DOT, state, and federal regulations. Cost control measures related to workers' compensation claims and the return to work program will also fall under the Director's purview. The role requires interfacing with legal and risk management teams on various initiatives, acting on behalf of the company in litigation related to risk management activities, and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. The Director will also direct safety and compliance initiatives, educate drivers on FMCSR regulations, and collaborate with the Driver Training Manager to keep programs current. Proactive data analysis and communication of key findings to stakeholders are essential for recommending enhancements to driver performance standards. Additionally, the Director will lead efforts around site disaster recovery programs and administer ergonomics programs, while performing site safety inspections to identify and resolve safety concerns.
