About the position

The Director of Safeguarding at GiveDirectly will lead the Safeguarding Team, ensuring that the organization has effective systems, policies, and processes to manage safeguarding risks and deliver cash safely to recipients. This role involves setting a vision for excellence in safeguarding, managing a global team, and advising senior leadership while coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to prioritize safeguarding across all operations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Safeguarding Team and ensure safeguarding is mainstreamed across all organizational pillars.
  • Create a strategic vision and roadmap for the Safeguarding team, coordinating with senior and country leadership.
  • Implement the strategic vision through project management and coordination.
  • Own strategic planning, goal setting, and budgeting for the Safeguarding team.
  • Serve as a focal point for safeguarding concerns, providing an independent resource for staff.
  • Represent GiveDirectly in external safeguarding forums for compliance and best practices.
  • Establish a strong organizational culture of safeguarding, including prevention of SEAH.
  • Oversee knowledge management and internal communications regarding safeguarding standards.
  • Ensure safeguarding standards are integrated into project designs and processes.
  • Develop and implement safeguarding metrics and collect data from country offices.
  • Conduct audits and oversee safeguarding audit undertakings.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of relevant experience in non-profit management or safeguarding leadership.
  • Technical expertise in safeguarding investigations, program design, or gender protection.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, especially with senior audiences.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with a proven track record of delivering results.
  • Ability to lead and set strategic vision in a fast-paced environment.
  • Analytical problem-solving skills and strong stakeholder management capabilities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Fluency in French or Portuguese is a plus.
