About the position

As the Director of Social Media at Chegg, your primary goal will be to enhance the lives of students through innovative social media strategies. This role is pivotal in supporting the Brand Marketing team to achieve engagement, community growth, and foster deeper relationships with students. You will operate under the supervision of the Head of Brand and will be responsible for managing Chegg's presence across various social platforms, particularly focusing on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. This position offers a unique opportunity to build a social media vision from the ground up, ensuring that the brand maintains a strong presence while also engaging with current trends and cultural moments that resonate with our target audience. In this role, you will develop a comprehensive vision and strategy for Chegg's social media presence, aligning it with broader brand and business objectives. You will be tasked with delivering a social-first approach, creating engaging and timely content that encourages sharing among peers. Your responsibilities will include leading the messaging and content strategy to support various company initiatives, managing social media content calendars, and proactively ideating and creating content that reflects the brand's voice and values. You will also oversee analytics reporting, providing insights to teams and setting realistic project goals. Collaboration will be key, as you will work cross-functionally with teams such as Public Relations, Product, Customer Service, and Operations to ensure cohesive messaging. Additionally, you will mentor a Social Media associate, guiding them in best practices and content creation across platforms like YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and more. This role requires a deep understanding of social media dynamics, a passion for current culture, and the ability to adapt to the ever-evolving landscape of digital communication.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a vision and strategy for Chegg's social media presence that aligns with brand and business goals.
  • Deliver a social-first approach through engaging and timely content.
  • Lead the messaging and content strategy for company initiatives such as campaigns and product features.
  • Manage social media content calendars and proactively create content.
  • Oversee analytics reporting, providing insights and setting project goals.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support messaging goals.
  • Work closely with Creative partners to ensure brand voice consistency.
  • Educate the team on best practices across social media platforms.
  • Manage and mentor a Social Media associate.

Requirements

  • 6-8 years of demonstrated social media leadership experience at a major brand or creator account.
  • Experience in tech, lifestyle, or services industries, focusing on youth audiences.
  • Strong understanding of trends across general and niche audiences.
  • Video portfolio showcasing long and short-form content.
  • Experience in video production and familiarity with editing tools for social platforms.
  • Ability to create against a high-output content strategy.
  • Deep understanding of KPIs and measuring social success.
  • Proficient writing skills with an understanding of audience communication styles.
  • Passion for current culture including sports, fashion, entertainment, music, and art.
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, English, Business, Sports Marketing, or related field.
