About the position

Cargill's Director, Software Engineering Community of Excellence will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of software engineering within the organization. This position is designed for a leader who can provide thought leadership and strategic direction while leveraging deep technical expertise to enhance the engineering practices across Cargill's Digital Technology and Data (DT&D) organization. The Director will oversee a variety of engineering areas, ensuring that the practices and skills are continuously maturing to support modern engineering methodologies. This role is crucial in fostering an effective and authentic engineering culture that maximizes the capabilities of the engineering teams. In this capacity, the Director will lead a team responsible for developing and driving processes, tools, and standards that facilitate the transformation to a product-oriented model. This includes establishing operating guardrails for product models, implementing Agile coaching practices, and creating product toolkits. The Director will also identify the cultural changes necessary for the successful adoption of these practices. By building strong relationships within the engineering community, the Director will promote innovative technical trends and software engineering best practices, ensuring that the teams are equipped to tackle business challenges effectively. Additionally, the Director will be responsible for strategic leadership and talent management for their direct reports. This includes forecasting resource needs, recruiting and hiring top talent, managing performance, and overseeing training and budgeting. Collaboration with managers and supervisors will be essential to align staff selections with both current and future organizational needs, ensuring that the engineering teams are well-prepared to meet the demands of the business.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic direction, technical leadership, and influence in the development and adoption of SDLC processes and infrastructure as code practices for multiple engineering teams across the DT&D organization.
  • Set the strategy and framework that will drive the DT&D transformation to a product model, including establishing product model operating guardrails, Product/Agile coaching practices, and product toolkits.
  • Develop strategic relationships with the engineering community and foster innovative technical trends, modern skills, and promote software engineering best practices.
  • Provide strategic leadership, development, and talent management activities for direct reports and their organizations, including forecasting resource needs, recruiting, hiring, performance management, training, and budgeting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of eight years of related work experience.
  • Five years of supervisory experience.
