About the position

The Director of Software Engineering at Thomson Reuters will lead a team responsible for designing and building a platform that automates market-moving economic indicators, commodity news, and company data. This role requires a strong technical background, effective management of engineering resources, and a focus on delivering high-quality software solutions. The director will oversee large-scale development initiatives, implement best practices, and maintain long-term client relationships, ensuring the platform's speed, accuracy, and cost-effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of software engineers in designing and building the automation platform for economic indicators and company data.
  • Direct large-scale and complex development initiatives while managing resources and risks.
  • Implement best practices for high-quality and maintainable software development.
  • Manage and motivate a distributed team, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
  • Conduct regular reviews with management on project progress and maintain transparency.
  • Ensure modifications to existing software correct errors or improve performance.
  • Collaborate with various teams to solve problems and deliver innovative solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10 years of progressive work experience in software engineering.
  • 8+ years of experience building applications in an Agile environment with modern JavaScript architecture and frameworks.
  • Significant experience in software architecture and front-end product development.
  • Proven ability to manage and mentor a globally distributed team.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud computing platforms and understanding of scalability and security.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience designing and delivering high-volume, reliable web products for customer-facing applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for diverse audiences.
  • Ability to negotiate with third-party software vendors.
