About the position

The Director, Software Engineering at Exact Sciences is responsible for leading and guiding a division of the Software Engineering team through multiple software initiatives. This role requires independent leadership, team building, and execution to ensure software projects are completed with confidence and minimal oversight. The Director will collaborate with cross-functional teams to create and implement a unified Software Engineering strategy, while also ensuring the growth and success of the engineering team in supporting mission-critical development across various business areas.

Responsibilities

  • Provide independent confident leadership to the software engineering team.
  • Combine knowledge of business priorities and needs with team capabilities to execute project initiatives with minimal guidance.
  • Implement formalized architectural modeling practices, producing detailed architectural deliverables such as functional decomposition and deployment diagrams.
  • Enhance engineering team capabilities by developing coding, testing, and deployment protocols and best practices.
  • Maintain relationships and transparency with key stakeholders including CEO, COO, Sales, Support, Customers, and Affiliates.
  • Ensure project delivery meets client satisfaction on time, on budget, and with quality.
  • Develop and grow Software Engineering capabilities as the company expands product lines and systems integrations.
  • Leverage technical expertise and industry trends to influence business, product strategy, development, and quality.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in software engineering leadership roles.
  • Strong understanding of software development processes and methodologies.
  • Experience with architectural modeling and design.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to maintain stakeholder relationships.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the healthcare or cancer detection industry.
  • Familiarity with centralized IT systems and multi-site organization dynamics.
  • Knowledge of current industry trends in software engineering.
