About the position
The Director of Software Engineering at Salesforce will lead the Heroku Eventing, Metering, and Usage team, focusing on modernizing and rebuilding the platform to enhance customer engagement. This role emphasizes collaboration across various teams, effective communication, and the management of a highly distributed and scalable technology platform. The position is remote and requires a technology leader who is passionate about software engineering and capable of driving performance and innovation within the team.
Responsibilities
- Increase Heroku's eventing, metering and usage engineering competency across all engineering teams using a mix of mentoring, training, and hiring industry experts.
- Partner closely with Heroku Application teams, business and billing operations, Salesforce cloud team, data scientists, data analysts, and visualization engineers to develop an effective roadmap.
- Drive the execution and delivery of billing and usage capabilities by collaborating with many multi-functional teams, architects, product owners, and engineers.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to discover and mitigate known and unknown risks.
- Make critical decisions that attribute to the success of the product.
Requirements
- Proven experience in software engineering and technology management.
- Strong knowledge of programming and architecture patterns, particularly in distributed systems.
- Experience leading and mentoring engineering teams.
- Excellent communication skills and a proactive attitude.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with Ruby and modernizing legacy systems.
- Familiarity with billing processes and customer support in a technology environment.
- Background in data science or analytics.
