About the position

The Director of Software Engineering at Thomson Reuters will lead a team responsible for designing and building a platform that automates market-moving economic indicators, commodity news, and company data. This role requires a strong technical background, leadership skills, and the ability to manage a distributed team while ensuring high-quality software development practices. The director will oversee large-scale development initiatives, implement process improvements, and maintain long-term client relationships, all while adapting to the fast-paced financial data landscape.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of software engineers in designing and building the automation platform for market-moving data.
  • Direct large-scale and complex development initiatives, ensuring timely delivery within budget constraints.
  • Implement best practices for high-quality and maintainable software development.
  • Manage and motivate a distributed team, fostering a collaborative environment.
  • Ensure modifications to existing software improve performance and correct errors.
  • Maintain long-term client relationships and networks with critical customers.
  • Conduct regular reviews with management on project progress and maintain communication infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10 years of progressive work experience in software engineering.
  • 8+ years of experience building applications in an Agile environment using modern JavaScript architecture.
  • Significant experience in software architecture and front-end product development.
  • Proven ability to manage and mentor a globally distributed team.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud computing platforms and understanding of scalability and security.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with negotiating third-party software packages and vendors.
  • Familiarity with service integrations, data analytics, and security solutions.
