About the position

The Director of Software Engineering at DIRECTV is responsible for supervising a large team of over 150 employees and contractors in the software development group. This role focuses on delivering IT-related work for the directv.com web application, ensuring a results-driven software development process that emphasizes speed, quality, customer experience, and continuous improvement. The director will work closely with leadership and various teams to identify business and technical issues, manage resources, and oversee large-scale development efforts in a multi-vendor environment.

Responsibilities

• Supervise a team of more than 150 employees and contractors in the software development group.
• Provide a clear vision and facilitate the execution of a results-driven software development process.
• Identify business and technical issues associated with projects and handle escalations.
• Ensure effective work planning through participation in Program Increment pre-planning and planning events.
• Allocate and manage expense budget, estimate funding, and ensure capital projects are delivered within budget.
• Build a high-performance team by hiring, training, coaching, and mentoring leads and managers.
• Evaluate individual performances on a quarterly and annual basis and provide performance feedback.
• Manage large-scale and multi-national development efforts in a multi-vendor environment.
• Provide status updates to leadership teams and escalate any blocking issues.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electronic Engineering or Computer Science or foreign equivalent.
• 5 years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in software engineering or a related occupation.
• Experience working with leadership and various teams to provide a clear vision for software development.
• Experience in managing resource needs for SCRUM teams based on demand, budget, and schedule.
• Experience in building high-performance teams and mentoring employees.
• Experience managing large-scale and multi-national development efforts.
