About the position

The Director of Software Test Engineering at Candela Medical is responsible for leading and managing a team of test engineers, ensuring compliance with global medical regulatory requirements, and driving the implementation of an automation test pipeline. This role requires strong technical expertise in automation test frameworks, CI/CD processes, and regulated medical device standards, while also focusing on team development and continuous improvement in testing strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of test engineers, providing technical guidance and performance management.
  • Ensure that development lifecycle processes meet global medical regulatory requirements and internal quality standards.
  • Lead design verification testing projects to meet deliverables, technical, budget, and schedule goals.
  • Manage resources, development plans, and team growth, coaching and counseling team members.
  • Drive continuous improvements in the test automation strategy, focusing on scalability and efficiency.
  • Oversee the entire software testing lifecycle, including functional, regression, performance, and load testing.
  • Implement best practices in test management, including risk-based testing and defect tracking.
  • Track and present testing metrics, coverage, and progress reports.
  • Design and implement robust test automation procedures and scripts.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align testing processes with product release goals.

Requirements

  • Degree in Software, Computer, or Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in software testing, with at least 3 years in a management or team lead role.
  • Experience with medical device quality system regulations and standards (e.g., ISO14971, IEC60601, IEC62304 compliance).
  • Solid knowledge of test automation tools and frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, Appium).
  • Experience implementing BDD methodologies and associated frameworks (e.g., Behave).
  • Proficient in coding and scripting with languages such as Python, Java, JavaScript, or C#.
  • Experience in Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) processes and related tools (e.g., Git, Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Effective interpersonal skills including mentoring, coaching, collaborating, and team building.
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with performance and load testing tools (e.g., JMeter, LoadRunner).
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms and containerization (e.g., AWS, Azure, Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Software test certification (e.g. ISTQB).
