The New York Post and Page Six are at the forefront of delivering top-notch content in News, Sports, Pop Culture, and Entertainment, engaging an audience of approximately 100 million unique viewers each month. With a rich history spanning 223 years, The Post has transformed into a multi-platform media powerhouse, encompassing print, digital, video, audio, app, television, and commerce. The Director of Sports Social Media will play a pivotal role in shaping the social media landscape for The Best Sports in Town, reporting directly to the Senior Director of Social Media and maintaining a dotted line to the Executive Sports Editor. In this role, the Director will be responsible for building and managing a dedicated sports social media department. This includes developing and implementing processes for social-first storytelling that promotes engagement and maintains a comprehensive 24/7 team calendar of coverage. The Director will optimize content for the New York Post Sports social platforms, executing daily postings across various channels such as Facebook, X, Instagram, and TikTok, ensuring that all content aligns with the brand's guidelines and standards. The Director will lead a team focused on dominating breaking sports news, events, and trending topics, particularly within the New York metro area, both inside and outside of stadiums and arenas. They will also be tasked with developing and measuring growth strategies across all social channels, guiding the sports social team to achieve follower growth and engagement targets. Collaboration with the NYP Sports editorial team is essential, as the Director will sit with editors, attend daily meetings, and maintain constant communication with the sports staff. Additionally, the Director will work closely with sales and marketing departments to execute social media marketing campaigns and identify opportunities for collaboration with brands and influencers. Staying abreast of the latest social media technologies and best practices is crucial, as the Director will need to adapt to new tools, algorithm changes, and platform enhancements to ensure the department remains competitive and effective.

Responsibilities

  • Build and manage a sports social media department for The Best Sports in Town.
  • Develop and build processes for social-first storytelling across platforms to promote engagement and maintain a 24/7 team calendar of coverage.
  • Optimize sports section content for New York Post Sports social platforms and execute daily posting across Facebook, X, Instagram, TikTok and more, ensuring content packing aligns with our brand and guidelines.
  • Lead a team that dominates breaking sports news, events and trending topics, particularly in the NY metro area, inside and outside of the stadiums and arenas.
  • Develop and measure sports growth strategies across all social channels coverage, guide sports social team to hit follower growth and engagement targets.
  • Work alongside the NYP Sports editorial team, sitting with the editors, attending their daily meetings and constantly communicating with the sports staff.
  • Work closely with sales and marketing departments to execute social media marketing campaigns and identify opportunities to collaborate with brands and influencers.
  • Maintain proficiency and knowledge in latest social media technologies and best practices (i.e. new tools, algorithm changes, platform enhancements).

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of experience managing social media in a newsroom or for a sports organization.
  • A deep knowledge of and passion for all things sports with an expertise in local NY sports is a must.
  • Strong news judgment and excellent writing and copy-editing skills.
  • Knowledge of digital media trends and emerging platforms.
  • Proficiency in metrics-based decision making with an emphasis on reading and interpreting data.
  • Ability to be both a self-starter and team player; strong interpersonal and communication skills are required.
  • Ability to multitask, balance priorities and thrive in a fast-paced newsroom environment.
