About the position

The Director of Strategic Communications and Public Relations at Brandeis University is responsible for leading the university's communications efforts to enhance its reputation and increase global recognition. This role involves managing media relations, crisis communications, and internal communications, while providing oversight to the communications team. The Director will work closely with senior leadership to develop and implement effective communication strategies that align with the university's marketing goals, particularly in admissions and advancement.

Responsibilities

• Lead the communications efforts of the university to enhance its reputation and increase name recognition globally.
• Manage crisis communications and issues management, identifying potential crises and collaborating with senior leaders to address them proactively.
• Oversee proactive media relations, including pitching stories, developing news releases, and creating digital content for media interest.
• Supervise a senior content and media specialist, guiding them in creating appealing content for prospective students and donors.
• Provide guidance and counsel on communications across the university, assisting faculty and administrators with media requests and media training.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or a related field.
• 8 or more years of related work experience in communications or public relations.
• 3-5 years of progressively responsible supervisory experience.
