About the position

The Director - Strategy and Project Management is responsible for leading strategic planning and project management initiatives across Michaels. This role involves developing and analyzing key strategic business priorities, ensuring operational excellence, and driving the execution of critical company initiatives. The director will collaborate with various stakeholders to implement growth programs and strategic initiatives, focusing on innovation and long-term planning.

Responsibilities

  • Drive Michaels strategic planning process and cadence cross functionally.
  • Support the development of Corporate Strategy materials for executive leadership and the Board of Directors.
  • Understand and stay current on industry trends and the competitive landscape.
  • Identify and drive key strategic projects and orchestrate workstreams cross functionally.
  • Develop deep business knowledge and subject matter expertise to generate insights.
  • Partner with business leaders to develop and implement growth programs and strategic initiatives.
  • Establish long-range and annual planning processes and success metrics.
  • Support the leadership of the Strategic Project Management Process.
  • Develop, track, analyze, and publish project and financial reports, scorecards, and performance trends.
  • Lead monthly strategic initiative review meetings with key stakeholders and executive leadership.
  • Define and maintain effective methodologies, guidelines, and standards for successful project outcomes.
  • Facilitate changes in priority and demand as business needs evolve.
  • Execute demand and capacity management activities, adjusting resources and priorities as needed.
  • Build strategic relationships across relevant business functions to drive alignment and resolve conflicts.
  • Build effective project teams and promote a positive environment.
  • Provide mentoring, coaching, and development for Project Leads and Business Partners.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
  • 7+ years of Strategy consulting or 10+ years of corporate Strategy & project management experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Experience with project management tools and SharePoint.
  • Strong financial/business modeling and analysis skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple high-priority projects simultaneously.
  • Track record of strategic thinking and proven thought leadership.
  • Ability to convert high-level business objectives into actionable plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, execute, manage, and influence negotiation strategies.
  • Executive presence to influence Executive Level Decision-Makers.
  • Ability to manage complex relationships with various stakeholders.

Nice-to-haves

  • MBA preferred.
  • PMI certification preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive work experience within a retail or consulting environment strongly preferred.
  • Change leadership experience.
