About the position

The Director of Systems Reliability Engineering (SRE) at Disney is responsible for leading a high-performing team that enhances reliability practices across various sophisticated systems and applications. This role involves overseeing the architectural design, automation, monitoring, and operation of applications at scale, ensuring they are efficient, effective, and resilient. The director will communicate a clear vision, mentor managers and engineers, and drive technical innovation while maintaining high standards of service and collaboration with business partners.

Responsibilities

  • Build and lead a team of Managers and SREs to support multiple sophisticated systems and applications.
  • Communicate a clear vision that defines the team's purpose and commitment to quality and excellence.
  • Oversee financial planning, compliance, resource scheduling, and service level objectives.
  • Mentor and develop managers and their teams in software, system reliability, and security.
  • Act as a technical leader, providing direction on enterprise-level projects and championing change.
  • Deliver stellar customer service experiences to internal business partners and seek opportunities for improvement.
  • Regularly meet with key partners to align needs and grow team impact.
  • Resolve project delays, conflicts, and performance issues, owning outcomes.
  • Influence others through data-based persuasion and lead by example.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of experience leading engineering teams in software and reliability engineering.
  • 5+ years of hands-on engineering experience.
  • Detailed knowledge of core internet protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP) and programming languages (Python, Go, C++, Ruby, Java).
  • Experience scripting infrastructure with tools like Terraform or CloudFormation.
  • Understanding of configuration management frameworks (Chef, Puppet, Ansible, Salt).
  • Experience managing public and private cloud hosting environments.
  • Familiarity with data visualization, metrics, and data analysis.
  • Experience with vulnerability management and defect tracking.
  • Knowledge of risk management and continuous integration/continuous delivery.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting to Senior and Executive Management.
  • Ability to manage budgets and vendor relationships.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.

  • Related certifications (CSTE, CTM, CSM, CSPO, AWS-CDE, AZ-400, CKA, CKAD, CISSP, CEH, CDMP, CRISC, Google Cloud Professional Cloud DevOps Engineer).
  • Master's Degree in a related field.
