About the position

The Director of Taxes at CF Industries is a leadership role responsible for overseeing the company's U.S. direct and indirect tax compliance, controversy, and external reporting. This position works closely with the Vice President of Tax to enhance processes and team development while managing tax law analysis, planning, and minimization strategies. The Director will lead the U.S. tax compliance team, manage audits, and ensure accurate reporting of income taxes in financial statements.

Responsibilities

  • Determine and report all aspects of U.S. tax compliance, controversy, and planning.
  • Assist with financial statement reporting and disclosures, including Sarbanes-Oxley procedures.
  • Oversee the efficient use of Thomson Reuters OneSource Income Tax.
  • Budget and forecast income tax payments for U.S. operations.
  • Collaborate with controllers and corporate planning groups on tax posture in forecasts and budgets.
  • Support analytical aspects of federal and state tax planning activities.
  • Participate in pursuing incentives for facility expansions and new developments.
  • Lead federal and state audits and support foreign income tax audits.
  • Manage indirect tax matters, including property tax filings and sales/use tax appeals.
  • Provide technical guidance on Form vendor 1099 reporting and prepare Board of Directors 1099s.
  • Oversee CF Foundation compliance and planning.
  • Manage Superfund Excise Tax and other excise taxes.
  • Involved in the formation and registration of new entities.
  • Lead efforts to report remote work locations accurately.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting required; preference for a graduate tax degree (MST, MBA, or LLM) and/or JD.
  • Professional certification (e.g., CPA and/or IPT-CMI designation) desirable.
  • 10-15 years of tax experience, preferably with a large public accounting firm or corporate organization.
  • 5 years managing a tax team of direct reports.
  • Well-developed tax technical expertise in various tax types.
  • Strong critical and analytical thinking skills.
  • Experience with ERP systems.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a deadline-oriented environment.
