About the position

The Director of Technical Accounting at Hackensack Meridian Health is a leadership role within the Finance Department responsible for overseeing the Network's accounting policies, implementing new accounting standards, and ensuring the integrity of financial reporting in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles. This position involves collaboration with senior management and external auditors, as well as conducting technical accounting research and managing audits for financial statements and pension plans.

Responsibilities

  • Review and provide guidance on complex accounting matters to Senior Management and Division Controllers.
  • Lead and ensure proper accounting for transactions related to mergers and acquisitions, including joint ventures.
  • Conduct accounting research and document the organization's position with formal white papers.
  • Stay current on proposed accounting guidance changes and complete impact analysis for the Network.
  • Oversee the adoption of new accounting standards and update Senior Management on the status of adoption.
  • Resolve accounting questions promptly and ensure accurate recording and communication.
  • Draft and update accounting policies to align with the latest guidance.
  • Participate in annual financial statement audits and coordinate the preparation of audited consolidated financial statements.
  • Organize external audit procedures for critical accounting issues resolution.
  • Lead annual pension plan audits and prepare financial statement reports.
  • Prepare all external financial-related surveys required of the Network.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in accounting or related areas.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and research skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior experience in public accounting.
  • Working knowledge of all aspects of PeopleSoft Financials System.
