About the position

The Director of Technical Accounting at Discovery Communications is responsible for establishing and documenting the company's global accounting policies. This role serves as the subject matter expert on non-standard accounting topics, guiding peers in compliant accounting practices, and leading various accounting-related projects. The position involves creating presentations for senior management and the Board of Directors, coordinating with global leaders, and working directly with external auditors.

Responsibilities

• Establish, develop, and document the company's global accounting policies.
• Serve as the accounting subject matter expert for various non-standard accounting topics.
• Assess, conclude on, and document accounting treatment for transactions and contracts.
• Advise, guide, and monitor peers regarding compliant accounting behavior.
• Lead accounting and accounting-related projects, including the implementation of new accounting standards and business M&A projects.
• Create presentations and present to senior management and the Board of Directors.
• Work directly with external auditors on accounting positions and external filings.
• Coordinate work activities with other company leaders around the world.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field of study.
• Seven (7) years of experience in roles such as Manager, Audit and Assurance, Manager, Certification Technical Accounting, Manager, Corporate Accounting, Director Financial Reporting, or related role.
• Experience with US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and IFRS requirements.
• Experience in financial reporting and/or technical accounting for an SEC registrant or private company.
• Experience implementing best practices that require significant innovation for improving processes.
• Experience working directly with external auditors to resolve complex accounting and reporting issues.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification.
