About the position

As a Director of Technical Program Management (TPM) at Capital One, you will play a pivotal role in leading programs that are essential for achieving critical business objectives and developing large-scale products and platforms. Your primary focus will be on building robust platforms for mobile and web applications that enhance customer experiences across Capital One's various lines of business, including credit cards, retail banking, and auto finance. These platforms serve as the foundational elements for delivering delightful customer experiences, and your leadership will be crucial in ensuring their success. In this role, you will not only manage technical programs but also contribute to the growth of the TPM discipline within the organization. Leveraging your extensive industry knowledge and experience, you will guide the team in understanding the impact and potential of effective technical program management. You will be expected to possess a strong technical background, ideally with experience in building highly scalable platforms, products, or services. Your ability to proactively identify and mitigate technical risks throughout the delivery lifecycle will be essential. Exceptional communication and collaboration skills are vital, as you will work closely with cross-functional teams, including product, engineering, design, and data science representatives. You will need to simplify complex technical concepts and drive informed decision-making across these teams. Responsibilities

  • Lead programs that deliver on critical business goals and build large scale products & platforms.
  • Build solid platforms on mobile and web surfaces to enhance customer experiences.
  • Pave the way for an expanding TPM discipline within the team.
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks throughout the delivery lifecycle.
  • Simplify complex technical concepts for cross-functional teams.
  • Drive informed decision-making across product, engineering, design, and data science representatives.
  • Grow and develop a team of TPMs while building the foundations for the TPM practice.
  • Ensure execution, follow-through, accountability, and results in all projects.
  • Collaborate across different functions, organizations, and reporting boundaries to achieve project goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related technical field (Computer Science, Software Engineering).
  • At least 7 years of experience managing technical programs.
  • 7+ years of experience designing and building data-intensive solutions using distributed computing.
  • 3+ years of experience in building distributed systems & highly available services using cloud computing services/architecture, preferably AWS.
  • 3+ years of experience building highly scalable mobile products & platforms.
  • 3+ years of experience with Agile delivery.
  • 3+ years of experience delivering large and complex programs, owning the business or technical vision, and collaborating with large cross-functional teams.

Nice-to-haves

  • MBA or Master's Degree in a related technical field (Computer Science, Software Engineering) or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in building systems & solutions within a highly regulated environment.
