About the position

The Director of Technical Project Management at Verizon is responsible for leading the Corporate Systems Group's mission to digitize core processes, delivering real-time insights and capabilities that drive growth and competitive advantage. This role involves establishing a centralized PMO, developing program management processes, and mentoring team members to ensure effective project execution and governance.

Responsibilities

  • Establish a centralized center of excellence PMO in alignment with PMI guidelines and CSG PMO framework.
  • Build a PMO brand offering and vision board comparable to big 5 consulting organizations.
  • Evolve the PMO framework to ensure consistency in execution, risk management, and reporting.
  • Develop, implement, and govern program management processes, tools, templates, policies, and metrics.
  • Establish the PMO organization structure and manage staffing alignment based on competencies.
  • Create a vendor engagement framework to facilitate scaling of resources as necessary.
  • Collaborate with the portfolio team to focus on prioritized strategic initiatives.
  • Coach and track the PMO team against established OKRs.
  • Mentor program managers to improve team maturity and industry standards.
  • Provide project planning, milestone management, scope management, resource forecasting, and change management services.
  • Monitor project health, key design decisions, and risk reporting.
  • Ensure cross-program dependencies are managed and accurately maintained.
  • Facilitate change control processes and ensure adherence to project management tools and standards.
  • Coordinate project closure and ensure lessons learned are documented.
  • Participate in scenario planning and 'war gaming' workshops.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to realize the value of strategic initiatives.

Requirements

  • Ten or more years of relevant experience in strategy consulting, technology consulting, or corporate development.
  • Experience in establishing PMOs and governance frameworks.
  • Direct people management experience.
  • Willingness to travel.

Nice-to-haves

  • Masters in Business Administration.
  • Background or demonstrated interest in telecom, technology, or media industries.
  • PMP certification.
  • Strong analytical approach and structured thinking capabilities.
  • Excellent quantitative analysis and financial modeling skills with high proficiency in Excel.
  • Ability to synthesize information quickly and present insights to senior management.
  • Proven track record of problem identification, solution development, and implementation.
