About the position

As the Director of Technology Operations for Search at Walmart, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of omni-channel retail. This position is located in Sunnyvale, California, and is part of Walmart's Ecommerce organization. The Search team is dedicated to enhancing the online shopping experience by helping customers find and purchase the right products from a vast selection of inventory, which includes items from Walmart stores, fulfillment centers, and marketplace sellers. Your primary responsibility will be to work collaboratively across various organizational lines, including business, product, and engineering teams, to prioritize, design, and build an exceptional online search experience for our customers. In this role, you will be tasked with understanding and addressing problems that span multiple touchpoints, ensuring that the solutions you develop align with both business objectives and customer needs. You will evaluate the work in context with these objectives, assess potential impacts, and partner with the Search team and other internal stakeholders to create alignment and deliver comprehensive solutions. Your key deliverables will include identifying business opportunities, creating strategic visions, making data-driven decisions, solving complex problems, ensuring execution excellence, and fostering stakeholder communication. You will also be responsible for building and mentoring a team of Business Leads, promoting a team-centric environment that champions diversity and inclusion. This role requires a strong background in business and product management, particularly in technically complex products, and a proven track record of leading impactful initiatives in the retail or eCommerce space. Your leadership will be crucial in driving revenue growth and enhancing customer experiences through tailored solutions and effective team management.

Responsibilities

  • Work across organizational lines with business, product, and engineering teams to prioritize, design, and build the Walmart online search experience.
  • Identify business opportunities by networking across the organization and creating opportunity assessments to prioritize efforts and solutions.
  • Create compelling narratives around business and customer objectives to drive support and alignment across the organization.
  • Partner with business, product, design, and engineering to create annual and quarterly strategies and priorities.
  • Define key operating metrics, set goals, and track progress to ensure teams meet their objectives.
  • Solve complex search problems in collaboration with Product, Engineering, and Business leads, ensuring a customer-centric approach.
  • Define processes for creating quarterly product roadmaps, product reviews, and analytics insights, aligning stakeholders across the organization.
  • Transform customer insights into actionable strategies and coordinate rollout plans while mitigating risks to the business.
  • Build and communicate alignment around the Search experience direction with a broad spectrum of stakeholders.
  • Foster a team-centric environment by hiring, training, mentoring, and overseeing a team of Business Leads.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, management information systems, industrial engineering, engineering management, business, information systems, project/program management, information technology, finance, management, or related area and 6 years' experience in project management, program management, program operations, or related area.
  • 8 years' experience in business/product management of technically complex products.
  • At least 2.5 years of experience successfully leading a team.
  • Outstanding business acumen with experience managing revenue objectives and driving customer growth through tailored experiences.
  • Strong analytical expertise and comfort using data to glean insights.
  • Experience creating operating metrics, setting goals, and holding teams accountable.
  • Strong technical background with a deep understanding of software development processes and methodologies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in a relevant field such as computer science or management information systems.
  • 4 years of experience in Retail/eCommerce Search, driving impactful end-to-end initiatives.
  • Knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards and assistive technologies.
  • Experience in creating inclusive digital experiences.
