About the position

The Director of Ticket Operations at the University of California, Berkeley, is a pivotal role within the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, which encompasses over 275 staff members and supports 30 varsity sports programs. This position is responsible for the strategic and operational management of the Athletic Ticket Office, which processes more than $12 million in ticket sales annually. The Director will oversee the development of operational procedures, manage inventory, supervise ticket office staff, and ensure the smooth execution of on-site ticket sales efforts. In this role, the Director will independently plan, organize, and implement ticketing operations for assigned sports teams, acting as a liaison with coaches, student-athletes, and various departments to address customer inquiries and operational needs. The Director will also manage ticket operations for major sports such as Football and Rugby, ensuring that all ticket orders are processed efficiently and accurately. This includes overseeing player guest admissions, media pass lists, and game-day ticket sales, while maintaining secure transportation of funds and accurate attendance records. The Director will be responsible for ensuring excellent customer service at the Ticket Office and during events, balancing and reconciling ticket sales, and collaborating with external affairs units to enhance operational efficiency. Additionally, the Director will supervise two Athletic Ticket Office staff members, handling hiring, training, and performance management. This position requires a strong understanding of data management tools and the collegiate ticketing industry, along with the ability to lead and make effective decisions in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and manage the overall operations of the Athletic Ticket Office.
  • Develop operational procedures and manage inventory for ticket sales.
  • Supervise all ticket office staff and oversee on-site ticket sales efforts.
  • Plan and implement ticketing operations for assigned sports teams, acting as a liaison with coaches and other departments.
  • Respond to customer inquiries and resolve issues via various communication channels.
  • Manage ticket operations for Football, Rugby, and other assigned sports, including auxiliary box office setups.
  • Ensure security needs are met for events and manage admissions for players, media, and recruits.
  • Maintain accurate records for attendance calculations and analyze ticketing operations.
  • Oversee customer service at Ticket Office windows and during athletic events, ensuring excellent service is provided.
  • Collaborate with external affairs units to enhance customer service and operational efficiency.
  • Supervise and manage the performance of two Athletic Ticket Office staff members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent training/experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of the collegiate ticketing industry and best practices.
  • Ability to multi-task and work with frequent interruptions.
  • Effective listening skills and good judgment in decision-making.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Proficiency in computer applications and data management tools.
  • Substantial knowledge of Paciolan Ticketing System, Salesforce CRM, and other ticketing systems.
  • Knowledge of accounting, cash handling, finance, audit procedures, and marketing.
  • Ability to lead and supervise other employees.
  • Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Knowledge of applicable NCAA and ACC rules and regulations.
