About the position

The position involves defining requirements and leading the development of the Unified Data Platform at Emory University. The role focuses on designing and developing a data platform that efficiently addresses various data needs across Emory University and Emory Healthcare. The candidate will work with cutting-edge technologies to enable exploratory and quantitative analytics, ensuring data quality and accessibility for stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Define requirements and lead the development of the Unified Data Platform.
• Design and develop the data platform to address data needs across Emory University and Emory Healthcare.
• Employ software for event-driven data processing, storage, and serving through scalable APIs.
• Enable exploratory and quantitative analytics, data mining, and discovery.
• Collaborate with data engineers, API developers, DevOps, researchers, and analysts to design scalable systems.
• Build and maintain foundational data products across Emory Healthcare and Emory University.
• Ensure data quality by implementing reusable data quality frameworks.
• Work with other data engineering teams to roll out new capabilities.
• Build processes and tools to maintain AI/ML pipelines in production.
• Develop and enforce data engineering, security, and data quality standards through automation.
• Manage cloud costs and improve efficiency.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
• 5+ years working in healthcare or life sciences preferred.
• 8+ years of experience building and scaling data platforms.
• 5+ years of experience with cloud data technologies including Azure, Snowflake, AWS, Apache Airflow.
• Experience with programming languages such as SQL and Python.
• Experience with automation and scheduling tools like Airflow.
• Ability to leverage creative analytics techniques to drive business decisions.
• Strong partnership skills across departments and stakeholders.
