About the position

The Director of Upward Bound at Alvin Community College is a full-time professional role responsible for the implementation and management of the Upward Bound Grant. This position involves overseeing daily operations, staff supervision, and serving as the chief liaison between the college and the community. The Director is tasked with ensuring the successful delivery of services to students, monitoring participant selection, and coordinating evaluations and progress reports.

Responsibilities

  • Develops agenda, schedules, and chairs weekly staff meetings; facilitates supervisory visits to the target school.
  • Makes periodic visits to feeder schools, community organizations, businesses, and universities to disseminate information and promote project support.
  • Leads project evaluation and develops project reports as required by the grant proposal and the Department of Education.
  • Assists in hiring qualified staff and ensures compliance with non-discrimination policies.
  • Organizes and coordinates staff development activities.
  • Monitors participant selection to ensure enrollment meets project requirements.
  • Supervises public relations and informational efforts of the project.
  • Evaluates the UB Academic Year program and Summer Component, including all outlined activities.
  • Supervises development of Saturday Academies and field trips.
  • Coordinates project activities with other programs for disadvantaged youth.
  • Supervises electronic assessment and student tracking systems relevant to the UB project.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work, Higher Education Administration, or related field.
  • Three years of related experience in supervision, budget management, program development, and compliance with federal regulations.
  • Two years of experience with federal TRIO programs or similar programs for disadvantaged students.
  • Professional or personal experience overcoming barriers similar to those faced by Project Participants.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse backgrounds.
  • Sensitivity to the needs of economically and educationally diverse populations.
  • Ability to effectively use computer technologies for student assessment and tracking.
  • Experience and knowledge of career planning and Financial Aid.
  • Ability to travel when needed.
