About the position

Meta is seeking a seasoned User Experience Research Director to lead the UX Research (UXR) efforts for the GenAI Foundations group. This pivotal role involves overseeing a diverse team of researchers and collaborating closely with product, engineering, design, analytics, and other cross-functional teams to drive the development of GenAI-powered products that enhance user experiences across Meta's applications and devices. The ideal candidate will be instrumental in shaping the future of Meta's product strategy by leveraging deep insights into user behavior and needs, ensuring that the products developed resonate with a global audience. The UX Research team at Meta is dedicated to understanding the complexities of human interaction with technology. Researchers employ a variety of qualitative and quantitative methods, including surveys, focus groups, field studies, usability tests, and one-on-one interviews, to gather insights that inform product development. The team values diverse perspectives and backgrounds, fostering an inclusive environment that encourages innovative thinking and collaboration. As a research leader, the Director will manage a broad research area, guiding multiple research managers and individual contributors across various initiatives. Responsibilities

  • Manage a research area with broad scope in size and complexity.
  • Manage multiple research managers and individual contributors across various initiatives.
  • Consider factors beyond your immediate team to innovate, take appropriate risks, and balance short, medium, and long-term needs.
  • Influence and drive strategy across multiple teams.
  • Identify ways to elevate and up level Research with product leadership.
  • Identify gaps and solutions for future growth and scale within the organization.
  • Responsible for the quality of the team, including coaching, growing individual contributors and managers, and addressing under-performance.
  • Develop a cohesive and strong leadership team of managers.
  • Be a role model for inclusive behaviors and build a diverse organization that values different backgrounds and perspectives.
  • Understand organizational health and effectively diagnose and make recommendations to solve complex issues.
  • Communicate team purpose and contribution in alignment with the broader mission of the company.
  • Engage in cross-company efforts like recruiting, cross-functional partnerships, and diversity & inclusion initiatives.
  • Actively recruit and close top-tier talent for strategic open positions.
  • Drive team execution, culture, and process across the research community and externally.
  • Form internal partnerships, influence, resolve conflict, and build alignment across teams.
  • Proactively identify and resolve the largest problems impacting team execution and manage dependencies.
  • Identify relevant metrics and track trends to report progress relative to goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or significant experience conducting UX research with meaningful business impact.
  • 18+ years of experience conducting and/or studying research post-Bachelor's degree.
  • 8+ years directly managing, coaching, and developing full-time researchers.
  • 5+ years experience managing managers.
  • Experience managing across different research methodologies.
  • Experience directly conducting primary research end-to-end (designing, fielding, analyzing, and reporting data).
  • Experience building teams through hiring, growing, and retaining high-performing researchers.
  • Experience building and setting research strategy that connects with business strategy.
  • Track record of translating research into business impact.
  • Experience working with a variety of cross-functional peers and stakeholders.

Nice-to-haves

  • Masters or Doctorate degree.
  • Experience with consumer products, consumer insights, or product development.
  • 5+ years of UX research experience.
