About the position

Meta is seeking a seasoned User Experience Research Director to lead the UX Research (UXR) efforts for the GenAI Foundations group. This pivotal role involves overseeing research initiatives that will shape the future of GenAI products and strategies at Meta. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with product, engineering, design, analytics, and various cross-functional teams to deliver GenAI-powered products that resonate with users globally. The UX Research team is dedicated to understanding the diverse needs of users, employing a range of qualitative and quantitative research methods such as surveys, focus groups, field studies, usability tests, and one-on-one interviews. This role requires a deep understanding of user behaviors and the ability to translate insights into impactful product strategies. As a research leader, you will manage a broad research area, guiding multiple research managers and individual contributors across various initiatives. You will be responsible for identifying opportunities for innovation, balancing immediate and long-term needs, and driving strategic initiatives that enhance the quality and impact of research within the organization. Your leadership will be crucial in fostering a diverse and inclusive team culture, ensuring that the research team is equipped to tackle complex challenges and deliver high-quality insights that influence Meta's product development. In this role, you will also be expected to actively participate in cross-company efforts, including recruiting top talent, engaging in diversity and inclusion initiatives, and contributing to the overall health and engagement of the organization. Your ability to communicate effectively, diagnose complex issues, and build alignment across teams will be essential for success in this position. You will track relevant metrics to report on progress and impact, ensuring that the research efforts align with Meta's broader mission and goals.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a research area with broad scope in size and complexity
  • Manage multiple research managers and individual contributors across various initiatives
  • Consider factors beyond your immediate team to innovate and balance short, medium, and long-term needs
  • Influence and drive strategy while identifying risks and opportunities across multiple teams
  • Elevate and up-level research with product leadership
  • Identify gaps and solutions for future growth and scale within the organization
  • Ensure the quality of the team, including coaching and addressing under-performance
  • Develop a cohesive and strong leadership team of managers
  • Be a role model for inclusive behaviors and build a diverse organization
  • Understand organizational health and make recommendations to solve complex issues
  • Communicate team purpose and contribution in alignment with the company's mission
  • Engage in cross-company efforts like recruiting and diversity initiatives
  • Actively recruit and close top-tier talent for strategic positions
  • Drive team execution, culture, and process across the research community
  • Form internal partnerships and work effectively across teams to execute strategy
  • Identify and resolve the largest problems impacting team execution
  • Track relevant metrics to report progress relative to goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or significant experience conducting UX research with meaningful business impact
  • 18+ years of experience conducting and/or studying research post-Bachelor's degree
  • 8+ years directly managing, coaching, and developing full-time researchers
  • 5+ years experience managing managers
  • Experience managing across different research methodologies
  • Experience directly conducting primary research end-to-end
  • Experience building teams through hiring and retaining high-performing researchers
  • Experience building and setting research strategy that connects with business strategy
  • Track record of translating research into business impact
  • Experience working with cross-functional peers and stakeholders.

Nice-to-haves

  • Masters or Doctorate degree
  • Experience with consumer products, consumer insights, or product development
  • 5+ years of UX research experience.
