About the position

The Director of UX/UI for Purchase Experiences at New York Life Insurance Co. is a leadership role focused on enhancing the digital experience for customers and agents during the purchasing journey. This position involves overseeing the UX/UI design process, ensuring that user experiences are seamless, accessible, and aligned with business goals. The director will lead a team in creating innovative design strategies, conducting user research, and implementing best practices in design to foster trust and clarity in the company's digital offerings.

Responsibilities

  • Lead UX strategy processes employing human-centered design methodologies.
  • Partner with design strategy and UX research teams to conduct generative and evaluative research.
  • Incorporate operational and behavioral data into design strategies.
  • Architect and visualize design and experience strategy across various deliverables.
  • Lead periodic reviews and incorporate competitive and industry trends into design processes.
  • Partner with Design Systems to refresh style guides and design assets.
  • Develop design strategies balancing low/no-code platform benefits with custom development needs.
  • Plan and develop UX content in collaboration with content strategy partners.
  • Lead information architecture projects relevant to purchasing experiences.
  • Create wireframes, user flows, mock-ups, and prototypes across various platforms.
  • Harvest low-code/no-code platform component libraries to accelerate UI execution.
  • Develop strategies for blending NYL's design system with platform libraries.
  • Direct inclusive and responsive experiences compliant with industry standards.
  • Engage in design critiques to improve design quality.
  • Collaborate with engineering and product partners to deliver complex designs.
  • Establish design operations with clear roles and processes.
  • Define and manage a design roadmap and backlog.
  • Partner with design systems and product owners for quality assurance processes.
  • Implement measurement of design quality and usability KPIs.
  • Lead product AB/multivariate testing and usability testing.
  • Manage external design agencies and partner with leadership for large-scale implementations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Interaction Design, Fine Arts, or a related discipline (Master's preferred).
  • Extensive experience in UX/UI design and strategy, particularly in complex environments.
  • Proven leadership skills with experience managing design teams and projects.
  • Strong understanding of human-centered design principles and methodologies.
  • Experience with low-code/no-code platforms and design systems.
  • Ability to conduct user research and apply findings to design strategies.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the life insurance or financial services industry.
  • Familiarity with WCAG accessibility standards.
  • Knowledge of analytics and usability testing methodologies.
  • Experience with agile project management.
