About the position

The Director of Volunteer Services at Nashville Rescue Mission is responsible for directing and managing the operations of the Volunteer Services department. This role focuses on providing volunteers with meaningful experiences while supporting the organization's mission and programs. The Director will engage with volunteers, integrate them into the organization, and ensure effective communication and collaboration across various departments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage volunteer recruitment, onboarding, placement, scheduling, supervision, retention, and recognition.
  • Acquire, build, and maintain successful and meaningful volunteer relationships.
  • Evaluate the volunteer needs of each department and recruit quality volunteers.
  • Oversee and update the volunteer management system.
  • Review and process volunteer background screenings.
  • Provide updated volunteer schedules to Operations and Development departments.
  • Manage volunteer data and reporting.
  • Direct, supervise, develop, and evaluate volunteers.
  • Provide ongoing training and support for department volunteer schedulers.
  • Coordinate volunteer activities for major events such as Good Friday, Easter, July 4th, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent; bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years related experience preferred.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Excellent reading and writing skills; typing/computer usage; strong interpersonal relations and communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and volunteer management systems.
  • Ability to qualify as a designated Mission vehicle driver under Nashville Rescue Mission's insurance policy: Valid driver's license with no more than two moving violations in a 3-year period or more than one accident in a 1-year period.
  • Proof of insurance on personal vehicle (current).
