About the position

The Disabilities Mental Health Coordinator is responsible for implementing and coordinating services for children with disabilities and mental health needs within the Head Start program. This role involves planning, administration, and collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure effective service delivery and compliance with federal and state regulations. The coordinator will also oversee the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and monitor the progress of children with special needs.

Responsibilities

  • Develops the Disabilities Service Area Work Plans and coordinates services.
  • Coordinates disabilities and mental health screening for all enrolled Head Start children within 45 days of school.
  • Assists in the planning and coordination of multi-agency Child Find efforts.
  • Compiles and analyzes data on the effectiveness of disabilities and mental health services.
  • Coordinates special needs/disabilities related trainings for Head Start parents and staff.
  • Informs Head Start staff of relevant federal and state special education laws and local policies.
  • Collaborates with parents, service providers, and the LEA to establish IEP meeting schedules.
  • Manages all IEP files for accuracy and ensures all special needs children have updated IEPs.
  • Monitors classrooms and therapy sessions to ensure IEP goals are implemented.
  • Prepares and reviews all Memorandum of Agreements and/or Partnership Agreements with service providers.

Requirements

  • Associate degree (AA) or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.
  • Experience in Special Education, disabilities, and/or mental health areas preferable.
  • Good communication skills with staff and parents.
  • Good knowledge in computer skills.
  • Training/experience in the area of Disabilities and/or Mental Health preferable.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to converse in both Keres and English languages.
  • Experience in early childhood education.
