About the position

The Disability Insurance Program Manager I is responsible for leading one or more field office units within the Employment Development Department. This role ensures compliance with laws, policies, and procedures governing the Disability Insurance Program, emphasizing program integrity and proper duration control. The manager develops staff capabilities, maintains budgetary compliance, and supports continuous capacity building while fostering open communication. Additionally, the position involves marketing program services and may require acting as office manager in the absence of the primary manager.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership for field office units.
  • Ensure compliance with laws, policies, and procedures governing the Disability Insurance Program.
  • Emphasize program integrity and proper duration control.
  • Develop and maintain staff to ensure proper processing of workload within budgetary limitations.
  • Support continuous capacity building for all unit staff.
  • Encourage open, two-way communication.
  • Assist in maintaining a marketing program to educate and partner with program customers.
  • Comply with system security, internal control, and employee safety requirements.
  • Act as a coach and role model to management team members and staff.

Requirements

  • Moderate to extensive knowledge and skill of the State Disability Insurance (SDI) program.
  • Moderate to extensive knowledge and skill of Virtual Call Center (VCC) software tools.
