About the position

The Salt Watch Coordinator will oversee the Izaak Walton League's Salt Watch monitoring program, focusing on volunteer coordination, partnership building, data management, and communications. This role aims to promote smarter salting practices in local communities through volunteer engagement and advocacy efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, equip and support volunteers and partners for the Salt Watch program.
  • Coordinate and conduct events to promote the Salt Watch program.
  • Develop advocacy resources for volunteers and partners.
  • Manage the purchasing, collating, and distribution of Salt Watch kits.
  • Communicate regularly with volunteers and partners to support local efforts.
  • Establish formal partnerships for collaboration and fundraising.
  • Compile and input Salt Watch data into databases for analysis.
  • Support volunteers with data management and communication about water quality.
  • Develop content for IWLA communications and social media.
  • Serve as a liaison between League members, volunteers, and state agencies.
  • Collaborate with the communications department to engage media using Salt Watch data.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental education, natural resources management, or related field.
  • At least 2 years' experience coordinating volunteers in water quality monitoring or citizen science activities.
  • Experience mobilizing diverse partners including government and community groups.
  • Interest in environmental education and volunteer management.
  • Experience with public speaking and training workshops.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, ArcGIS, or similar platforms.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with diverse staff and volunteers.
  • Experience with social media platforms.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and own a car for travel.
  • Willingness to travel for multiple days consecutively.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in community outreach and water quality assessment.
  • Familiarity with data visualization and manipulation.
