About the position

The Dispatch Supervisor for the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Transit Security and Passenger Safety Communications Center. This role involves managing dispatchers, ensuring effective communication with field personnel, and maintaining operational efficiency and safety standards. The supervisor will also be involved in training staff, monitoring performance, and coordinating with various agencies to enhance service delivery.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates, supervises and evaluates the work of Transit Enforcement Dispatchers.
• Participates in developing, implementing and evaluating work plans, processes, policies, systems and procedures.
• Ensures that the radio and dispatch areas operate in a safe and professional manner.
• Monitors and takes appropriate action to enhance on-time performance.
• Trains staff on proper procedures for handling emergency and non-emergency calls.
• Develops recommendations to improve Communication Center operations.
• Communicates with Police Departments and other agencies as needed.
• Briefs the Deputy Director on daily activities and ongoing issues.
• Handles the first step of disciplinary action for Dispatchers.
• Manages the Ride Assured Program.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in communications, public administration, business administration or related field (highly desired).
• At least one year of experience in a dispatching environment where a CAD system is used.
• Ability to learn MTS policies and regulations.
• Skill in using Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Experience in supervising subordinates to achieve company goals.

Nice-to-haves

• CA P.O.S.T. Dispatchers Certificate or the ability to obtain one.
• Experience with a transit agency.

Benefits

• Salary range of $44,003 - $86,603 with an anticipated hiring range of $67,000 - $72,000.
