About the position
YARD 1 is seeking a full-time dispatcher to assist in the daily dispatch of operators and machines. This role is crucial for ensuring smooth operations by managing customer orders, scheduling jobs, and maintaining communication with operators. The dispatcher will also handle customer service inquiries and perform various administrative tasks, contributing to the overall efficiency of the team.
Responsibilities
- Answer phones to take and enter customer orders and handle other customer requests as needed.
- Confirm jobs with customers for the following day's schedule.
- Schedule machines and operators to jobs and ensure all jobs are acknowledged by the operator for the following day.
- Route machines to/from customer jobsites and apply for route permits when applicable.
- Maintain communications with operators to inform them about jobs and special instructions.
- Work with the shop team to fulfill any special deliveries needed to complete jobs.
- Work with the accounting team to give pricing for COD customers.
- Handle general office tasks such as mail distribution, filing, and other administrative projects as needed.
- Collaborate with sales, maintenance, and management teams to ensure a smooth operation both internally and externally.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Experience in dispatching or construction
- Proficiency in Google Suite (Google Docs, Sheets, Gmail)
- Ability to multitask and work through many moving parts with attention to detail
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to quickly learn industry-specific software and online truck permitting applications
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in day-to-day truck dispatch operations
- Basic skills in active listening, monitoring, complex problem solving, judgment and decision making, systems analysis, and computer & digital technology use
