About the position

The PMIC Architect position at Apple offers a unique opportunity to work on innovative power management technologies for display products. The role involves developing advanced power architecture and key power ICs for Apple's next generation products, including mobile devices and computers. The architect will collaborate with cross-functional teams and vendors to drive technology innovations and ensure high-quality product implementations.

Responsibilities

  • Drive innovative display power architecture and technology concepts.
  • Define PMICs from investigation, analysis, and design through successful product level implementation.
  • Investigate core architecture and technologies for key power metric performance optimization.
  • Be a key member of Apple's display silicon architecture team for new ideas and architecture definition.
  • Define new power architecture concepts for mobile devices/computers DC-DC voltage regulators.
  • Collaborate with Apple cross-functional teams and power vendors for custom PMIC definitions and developments.
  • Perform rigorous design reviews with silicon vendors to ensure high product quality.
  • Provide design simulation, calculation, and analytical models for design concept outcomes.
  • Provide PMIC specifications, simulation test cases, and validation test plans/results.
  • Ensure smooth hand-off of new architecture to execution teams with design analysis and risk assessments.
  • Conduct competitive benchmarking and provide technical support for production issues.
  • Lead power seminars and training for cross-functional teams.

Requirements

  • Minimum of B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 10 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Experience in power supply design and DC-DC IC architectures.
  • Knowledge of magnetic design, PCB layout, and efficiency optimizations.
  • Proficiency in Spice, Matlab, MathCad, Cadence, and Excel for analysis.

Nice-to-haves

  • M.S. in Electrical Engineering with a focus on power electronics.
  • Ph.D. preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of silicon physics and processes, including IC packaging technologies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of thermals, mechanical, and packaging challenges.
  • Familiarity with mixed-signal IC design challenges.
  • Experience in power management semiconductor/silicon companies.
