About the position
The Distance Education Technician at Bishop State Community College provides essential technical support for faculty, staff, and students utilizing instructional technology in distance learning environments. This role involves managing help desk tickets, administering learning management systems (LMS), and facilitating training for educational technologies, ensuring a seamless online learning experience.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and respond to Distance Education Help Desk tickets.
- Administer the Learning Management System (LMS).
- Provide faculty support and install distance education applications/software.
- Troubleshoot and update distance education software.
- Prepare files for software integrations and reports for distance education.
- Assist with recording and conferencing software and video editing for instructional programs.
- Build and maintain LMS course templates and syllabus templates.
- Facilitate training for faculty and staff.
- Perform general office duties as required.
Requirements
- Associate Degree in Computer Science or Computer Information Systems or related field.
- One year of demonstrated experience using administrative functions in Canvas LMS.
- One year of customer service experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other PC-based programs.
- Exceptional customer service skills.
- Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and work independently and in a team environment.
- Expertise in current educational technologies, including OneScreens and Microsoft365.
- Experience with video conferencing software tools (WebEx, Zoom, Big Blue Button).
- Ability to create reports in Excel, Word, and similar software.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in a college setting.
- Knowledge of emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence.
