About the position

As a Distinguished Data Architect at Walmart, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our data strategy and architecture. The Data Engineering team is responsible for managing the vast amounts of data generated at Walmart, and your expertise will be crucial in building robust data pipelines and data lakes that prepare big data for analysis. This role involves unlocking actionable insights in real-time, which is essential for driving profitability across various item categories and geographies. You will collaborate with leadership to facilitate better decision-making processes, ultimately saving millions of dollars for the company. In this position, you will lead the design and implementation of our data architecture, ensuring it is scalable and aligned with our business goals. You will manage customer data, identity, and segmentation, optimizing massive datasets to ensure accuracy, security, and accessibility across our platforms. Your responsibilities will also include modeling and designing databases that support both data analytics and operational needs, as well as developing and enforcing data governance policies to maintain high standards of data integrity and compliance. Collaboration is key in this role; you will work closely with business stakeholders, IT teams, and data scientists to understand their data needs and deliver top-notch solutions. Additionally, you will monitor and fine-tune data systems to ensure optimal performance and efficiency. As a mentor and leader, you will guide your team of data professionals, sharing best practices and technical expertise to foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field and 6 years' experience in data engineering, solution architecture, business intelligence, or related field.
  • 8 years' experience in data engineering, solution architecture, business intelligence, or related field.
  • Master's degree in Computer Science and 4 years' experience in data engineering, solution architecture, business intelligence, or related field.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Computer Science or related field and 6 years' experience in software engineering.
  • Relevant industry experience in retail, supply chain, eCommerce, or healthcare.
  • Experience in creating inclusive digital experiences and knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA standards.
  • Knowledge of accessibility best practices.
